Elkhart responsible for fun

Elkhart Chamber President/CEO explains

People would not be having as much fun if it weren’t for your community. Think about it. Elkhart is responsible for fun all over this country and beyond.

The weather has finally turned the corner and people are starting to enjoy the great outdoors. How are they doing this? Many families are camping. Last week I wrote about how the RV and camping lifestyle is growing in popularity in this country. I don’t have to point out our significance to this industry, but I will remind you of a quick point. If a family is camping in something other than a tent, their RV or camper was probably made in Elkhart County. Following the industry consolidation, which followed the last recession, we now make 85% of the RVs and campers hitting the road today.

But not everybody camps. Some people like to cruise around a lake in a nice boat. Where are nice boats made? Elkhart County.

Last week I had the privilege of touring part of Nautic Global Group. I was envious of the families who would be buying the fabulous boats being carefully crafted by the Nautic crew. Pontoon boats, fiberglass boats and aluminum fishing boats are all made here. Next, I want to try and tour our other boat making member, Bennington. I’ve already visited member Pontoon Stuff, who makes custom accessories. We don’t have 85% of the boating market, yet, but we have enough of an impact that if you see a boat in any lake in any state in this country, there is a good chance Elkhart County had something to do with it.

When the RV is parked and the boat is docked, maybe you just want to kick back and listen to music. Well, Elkhart County has a role in that too. The next issue of Leading Business magazine talks about our great Jazz Festival and the important musical instrument industry in this county.

Looking for fun this summer? Elkhart County has you covered.
